Geomembranes

Polyethylene lining membranes and geomembranes

WTB Geotechnics provide & install a wide range of polyethylene/polypropylene lining membranes: geomembranes. Geomembranes are now widely used for the containment of liquids, solids and gases in a variety of construction applications.
WTB Geotechnics has substantial experience and knowledge in 'Geomembrane
Engineering.' We welcome enquiries from all those parties involved in the design and construction of lined facilities.

Applications Include:

  • Lakes ponds and water features
  • Reservoir roofs
  • Stormwater attenuation tanks
  • Gas barriers - venting for new buildings
  • Reed beds

More information on applications can be found below and in our PDF technical data sheet. Contact WTB Geotechnics for prices and our free design and technical advisory service.

Gas barrier membrane

An interesting use and application of geomembranes is in their capacity to prevent the ingress of landfi ll gases - principally carbon dioxide and methane gas - into buildings. The picture right shows a geomembrane being placed into a conventional new homes building project which represents a relatively straightforward installation.Penetrations through the membrane are sealed with one piece ?top hat? sections. The membrane is overlaid with a fl oor screed and must, therefore, have excellent puncture resistance characteristics.

Landfill lining

This project shows the installation of a High Density Polyethylene geomembrane
- H.D.P.E. for use as a landfi ll lining in Belgium. The material is 2.00mm thick and
is manufactured to stringent quality control procedures to ensure that each roll
of material delivered to site conforms to published specifi cations. The integrity of the seams between adjacent sheets of geomembrane material is always important, but never more so than in the containment of waste. Every seam in this installation was tested and approved by an independent laboratory before secondary covering operations could proceed.
